My Top 5 Disappointments About Pokemon X and Y Empty My Top 5 Disappointments About Pokemon X and Y

Post by Dullahan Mon Mar 17, 2014 2:59 pm

With every passing generation, I get a sinking feeling that Pokemon is soon running out of originality, and may die from it.  But come X and Y, and I see that Gamefreak won't go down without a fight.  Sadly, just as there are good things about X and Y, there are also the bad.  This is my opinionated list of disappointments about the game.

#5. The Game Crashing Glitch: Players of X and Y know what I'm talking about.  When players save their game in Lumiose City, they may be threatened by a game crashing glitch, which might restart all of their hard work to square one! But as time passed, this glitch has proven to be easily avoidable since it only happens when you save outside. So if you saved your game indoors, you'll be fine.  And I think Gamefreak had released a patch for the glitch by now.

#4. HMs Still Aren't Easily Deletable: Oh, come on.  Don't get me wrong, I like some of the HMs, like Surf and Cut; but what angers me is that they still need a freaking move deleter to force them to forget the stupid things. And I know that some pokemon actually learn HM moves naturally, but again, they'll need the stupid deleter to get rid of them. -_-

#3. Xerneas and Yveltal's Catch Rate: from what I've heard, these two have the worst catch rate of all the legendaries.  You can simply just throw a regular pokeball at them, and it'll work without the gameshark. I know because I've seen it happen.

#2. Permanent Weather Conditions Aren't So Permanent Anymore: Although I do see this as disappointing, I believe that it actually balances the meta. Before you would just throw out Abomasnow, summon permanent hail, then switch him out and hardly ever use him throughout the course of the battle again. Now that the conditions last for 5 turns, that increases the use of Abomasnow exponentially.

#1. Fairy-type's Terrible Defensive Typing: I want to like the fairies, I really do. Their presence struck fear into the hearts of the dragons, specifically Hydreigon. but what keeps these little dragonborn from achieving true gold is...their defensive typing. Don't get me wrong, some of them actually have good SP.attk and SP.def to boot; only problem is, dragons are probably smart enough to NOT target their special defenses. Okay, so fairies have immunity from dragon-types, but that doesn't mean squat since most dragons will use physically damaging moves- basically anything not dragon-typed will take considerable chunks out of the fairies. Man, so much potential. Lost.

what disappointed you about X and Y? I'd like to know in the comments.

Hello! I'm the Devil's Advocate, here to counter your every point!

#5. It's already solved, so it's moot point anyways.

#4. Since Generation 5, the HMs have not been as vital to the plot as they were in the previous Generations. They were originally made so that the players would not be trapped in an area if they happened to have released certain Pokémon with certain HMs. Ex. On Cinnabar Island in Gen 1 without access to Fly, Surf or Teleport to an another Pokémon Center. In other words, the HMs are meant to be idiot proof.

#3. Again, similar with what occurred in Generation 5. They felt that plot-related captures should be on a curve, rather than keeping a player from progressing due to a desire to capture a stubborn Legendary. Game Freak is out to make money and that includes appealing to a broader audience.

#2. Weather was literally everywhere in the competitive battling scene in Generation 5. Either you had it or you didn't and tried to counter it. While certain Pokémon will lose or downplay their niche, it's better overall. You even said that yourself.

#1. Now this one, I could go on a rant about. Let's look at the type chart, shall we?

(Offensive)
2x Dark, Dragon, Fighting
0.5x Fire, Poison, Steel
0x N/A

(Defensive)
2x Steel, Poison
0.5x Bug, Fighting, Dark
0x Dragon

I get the impression that you've also forgotten that there also very powerful Physical Fairies that are very much deadly. Do Azumarill or M-Mawile ring any bells? Even Xerneas could go somewhat physical, having access to some very good coverage such as Horn Leech, Close Combat and Megahorn. (Though not making use of Geomancy makes him sad.)

Fairies are also amazing as an offensive typing as well. While they resist three very popular offensive types, they also able to lash out at three popular types as well. Their three resists are Steel, Poison and Fire. Steel is rarely seen aggressively, Poison suffers from poor base stats and Fire is almost never on the defense.

And in terms of potential, shall I bring out a list of very potent Fairies looming over the current circuit?

Clefable (The sheer amount of surprises from this one alone.)
Togekiss (Decent enough, despite the nerfs to its favorite moves.)
Sylveon (Solid stats and supporting moveset.)
Florges (Almost identical to Sylveon.)
Azumarill (Huge Power. Need I say more?)
Gardevoir (Amazing moves and typing, access to Mega. Hell, the Mega's ability is overkill with Hyper Voice.)
Mawile (Its Mega form is just insane when it gets going.)
Klefki (This little bugger is rather underwhelming in appearance. And then you see it in action...)

well, You've said everything better than I could. My competitive view is a little weak, and it looks like you are very competitive. And I was actually thinking about Klefki this morning, and I think its really interesting.

about the fairies, I was talking about the new fairies, not the older pokemon who gained the typing. But you do have a point, I should give the fairies a chance. I just felt that they were built for taking down dragons, but they just don't have the right status typing to do so. Okay so they have amazing special typings and considerable speed to back them up, but a smart dragon trainer won't be targeting those stats. They'll probably go for the weak physical defense typing. (Though I think Granbull is sturdy enough to survive a couple hits.) But that being said, I do think the Fairy-type is an interesting twist to the game. I at least want to save most of my judgment about them and wait for them to develop even more.

I actually have Sylveon almost completely leveled up and She is amazing (yes she, I managed to find a female eevee for that one) I use her almost all of the time because nine times out of ten she's untouchable. Draining kiss and moon blast are effective against most things. If you're using her with enough efficiency, she'll get the job done. Also, super training and pokemon amie are great ways to make most things fool proof. If you befriend your fairy type to the highest rating they can actually reader your character's mind and dodge a lot of attacks.

The reason Xerneas is so easy to catch is the fact that it wants you to capture it. If you pay close enough attention to the storyline when it first changes from the tree, you would have known that.. Just saying.

The weather thing well, I never use the weather differences and I can get through battles easily. The only one I use really is the fairy mist field thing and that's only if I'm not too confident about the typing matches.

I'm jelly of you finding a female eevee. That's pretty hard to do when you intentionally try to find a female. :/

In honestly it took a lot of tries. I think I have about ten eevees now and only found one female. I'm trying to get one of each eeveelution because I love them. Is it possible to search for people on pokemon X to send them a pokemon? If so I could send you a girl one next time I get one?
