Shadow, the Dark Hero
The description is about Shadow in the form he uses when he is fighting crime. Now when I see him in my mind I see him with pure white eyes. Like he has no pupils or iris. I could use all of the criticism I can get. I look forward to the feedback.
Shadow
Real Name: Jackson Roberts
Age: 18
Hair: Black
Eyes: White
Height: 6' 2"
Weight: 230 lbs.
Powers: Shadow can turn shadows into solid objects of his choice only using his mind. He can manipulate the shadows around his body to change his appearance. He can use his powers to open a pocket dimension, but is unable to maintain it so he built a device to keep it from collapsing. Shadow can merge with shadows and jump from one to another. Along his mothers side of the family, a super intelligence has been passed down from generation to generation. This allows Shadow to memorize and remember things easier than most people, and helps him design and build machines more complex than other humans can imagine.
Skills: Shadow wandered the world finally mastering the art of the ninja as well as mastering every single sword-fighting technique known.
Weakness: When exposed to bright lights Shadow experiences a slight power drain. During the day when there is a lack of shadows, Shadow is left a little vulnerable. Being as smart as he is, Shadow can over think while in a fight and lose his focus. Shadow is also susceptible to dark magic as well as attacks from creatures of darkness.
Origin: When Jackson was young, he was unlike most guys his age. Always quiet and anti-social, he never made any friends. His mother, Myra Roberts, was a well renowned rocket scientist from a family of geniuses. Jackson's father, Orpheus Roberts, was an enigma wrapped in a mystery. He was almost always away on business, but Jackson didn't know what his father did from work. Unknown to everyone but his wife, Orpheus was a man from another dimension where people could control shadows. When Orpheus was "away on business" he was actually secretly helping people in trouble but always in secret and never seen.
One week before his 10th birthday, Jackson had fallen ill. Orpheus knew Jackson was now gaining the same powers he had, but they were harming his son for unknown reasons. Orpheus also knew that he couldn't take his son to the hospital since too many questions would be raise about him, so he talked his wife into letting him care for their son at home. For one week, Orpheus did everything to cure his son of his ailment but to no avail. During the last few hours before his birthday, Jackson started violently thrashing and screaming.
As the clock struck midnight on the eve of his birthday, Jackson let out one final blood curdling scream, and a black mass stretched from his body and enveloped he entirety of the house. Just as quickly as the mass overtook the house, it retreated back to Jackson and he passed out. When he woke later that morning he was no longer sick or in pain. He searched the house to tell his parents but found no sign of them. Scared, he grabbed his father's favorite jacket and ran to his neighbors for help.
After a few hours with the police, temporary custody of Jackson is given to his mother's brother, Uncle Tom. A week later, Jackson is approached by an elderly man. The man introduced himself as Master Lan, the last shadow master on Earth. He also said that he knew who Jackson was and who his father really was. Master Lan told Jackson of his powers and that he could train Jackson to use them. Since Jackson was a kid who just went through losing his parents, he expected the old man's offer. Jackson also had a strange feeling he could trust the master.
While maintaining his life with Uncle Tom, Jackson devoted all the free time he could to training. As time passed, Jackson quickly mastered every skill and technique Master Lan taught him. Most of the techniques he learned he later found usually took months or even years to master, yet Jackson managed them in weeks. Master Lan also taught Jackson the basics of being a ninja as well as the basics of sword fighting.
By his 15th birthday, Jackson had mastered everything he could learn from Master Lan. Before Jackson left his master for the final time, Master Lan had told him a few things that would weigh heavily on his mind and even heavier on his heart. Master Lan told Jackson of a prophecy that spoke of a hero who must fight a great darkness that threatens Earth, and that Jackson was that hero. The Prophecy states:
Master Lan also revealed that that Jackson and his developing powers were to blame for his parents disappearance. Before Jackson could ask any of the many questions now filling his mind, Master Lan said he was dying now that his mission to train the hero of prophecy was complete. As his master began fading and becoming one with the shadows, Jackson bowed one last time and walked away trying to fight back his tears.
As Jackson returned home, he decided to keep the truth of his parent's disappearance secret from his uncle. When he walked through the door his uncle asked if he wanted to go to "take your son to work" day, but since Tom didn't have a son he was allowed to invite his nephew instead. Uncle Tom may not have been as smart as his sister, he still managed to get a job at a computer company.
The next day, Jackson started wandering around the company building while his uncle was busy working. As he turned a corner, Jackson stumbled upon a couple of shady characters walking down the hall. Instinctively, Jackson followed them as they entered into a restricted area. They entered a room that held the entire mainframe of the company. Jackson watched as the guys set up an odd device in the center of the room.
When Jackson heard one of the guys say the word "bomb," he rushed to find his uncle. He decided to use the shadows and jump from one to the next to find him quicker, but he was too late. Just as Jackson melded with the shadows, the bomb was prematurely set off and the entire building was demolished. Since He was in the shadows during the blast, Jackson was unharmed. When he emerged, he found nothing but rubble. He searched the debris hoping to find some sign of life. He heard he some rocks move behind him and quickly rushed over. Jackson had found his uncle partially buried and barely alive. He picked Tom's head up so his uncle could see him. When Tom saw that his nephew was safe and unharmed, he smiled weakly and passed into the void. Jackson sat there with his uncle in his arms and cried. He had no family left, no master. Jackson was now completely alone.
Jackson wanted revenge on the people who killed his uncle but they too had died in the explosion. Instead, Jackson decided to use his powers to help others, just like his father did. But he knew he wasn't ready. He needed more training. When Jackson heard the blare of police sirens he realized he needed to leave. If he was found, there would be questions he could not answer. Especially on how he survived the blast. That is one secret he wanted to keep secret. He decided he needed to go into hiding. Using his powers, he traveled the world using the name Sullivan and completed his training as a ninja as well as a swordsman. Three years later, Jackson returned home to the U.S. With the use of his powers he changed his appearance. Using this new look, Jackson would help those in need. Jackson will be a hero, just like his father.
Being new to the hero business, Jackson had trouble staying hidden. A shadowy image of him ended up on every possible news show. The media began calling him "The Shadow." Jackson adopted the name since it actually fit perfectly with his new appearance. He became Shadow, the Dark Hero.

Re: Shadow, the Dark Hero
I want to add to my character's powers but I would like some feed back from others. in Egyptian mythology its said that a person's shadow holds a persons whole essence. Even more important than their ba or ka. I want to make it that Shadow can control a person by making contact with the shadow. Also, I would also like to make it that if the shadow is taken from the person it belongs to, that person will fall into coma until its returned.

Re: Shadow, the Dark Hero
Well considering the powers that he has right now and giving him that power you need to start giving him draw backs with these powers. Otherwise he's going to be quite overpowered and basically become superman.
Re: Shadow, the Dark Hero
that is another thing I could use help with. I've been working on Shadow for years and I am still having trouble working with his weakness. so far I have dark magic, creatures of darkness (werewolves, vampires, etc.), and he is a pacifist. Shadow will only fight if he has too.

Re: Shadow, the Dark Hero
well jay did u make the world in which shadow lives on?
If not start making one since its gonna be essential for understanding ur character's strengths and weaknesses and reasons on how he gets his powers.
when that is made u can work on ur character much more easily
heres a couple of pointers that ar needed
1:Denizens of the world(example humans)
2:Legends and mythologies
3:Types of civilizations in that world (like clans, kingdoms or governed states etc.)
4:Time or Era (may not be necessary since it goes with number 3)
hope this suggestion helps ya.
let me know if u have any doubts or questions and ill try and answer as soon as i can

Re: Shadow, the Dark Hero
Well jay lets consider his powers. Dark manipulation usually means without shadows he's quite useless so having him weak in light may be a good weakness for him to have as when light is abundant his powers are useless as there can't be any shadows in light. Also with such a high intellect he could be more apt to over think which would cause him to lose focus in a fight. Finally if you want to be able to make him control another make it so he has a time limit on how long he can control a person. In roleplay terms he could probably do it for only 1 post as it's still a new technique to him but over time he may be able to go up to 5 posts max (anymore than that is overpowered). Basically another good way to determine weakness is to think about the powers they already have.
Re: Shadow, the Dark Hero
Naling and pick thank you for ur suggestions. Shadow basically lives in this world and time period. kind of like the marvel universe, only without all of the mutants. having powers is much more rare for the people. but like I mentioned in the origin, Shadow is not exactly human. half of his DNA comes from a human-like-being that I call shadow walkers for obvious reasons. and if u know a lot about mythology, these shadow walkers have been seen throughout history (in my universe) and have influenced these mythologies.

Re: Shadow, the Dark Hero
What I would suggest for limiting one of your character's abilities, is his ability to make things out of the shadow. Maybe, the bigger the object he tries to create, the more concentration he'll need to put into it, or the more energy it could take from him, at least in the beginning for him. This way, an opponent would at least have a chance to counterattack, but seeing as your character is passive, he would be spending most of his time trying to improve on that ability. Other than that, I enjoy that you've taken mythology into creating your character.
